Rotorway 162F

This is my Rotorway 162F that I purchased in November of 2006.  It has fulfilled a boyhood dream of owning a personal helicopter and being able to keep it at my house.  The helicopter was built in 1995 and '96 by Mr. Clarence Johnson of Federal Way, Washington.   After purchasing the helicopter, I disassembled it to complete some upgrades and get familiar with the machine.

When I was looking at experimental helicopters, the Rotorway caught my eye with its good looks.   Like many others, I had never seen one fly.   Certainly made me wonder.   Now I understand a bit more why most people never see them.   Since the helicopter uses automotive fuel and can be kept at your home, there is little need to go to airports!  In fact, If I didn't have a plane at the local airport, I'd probably never go there.  I try to fly mine on a regular basis and really enjoy its flying qualities.   Typical flights are buzzing around the area or over to see a friend.   As of September of 2007, the helicopter has 110 hours total time.  If you are thinking about one or have any questions, feel free to contact me.  As mentioned in other areas of this website, I'll usually drop everything to talk aviation.

F.A.Q.  - Is it better than a Robinson?

For me - Yes.   I enjoy working on it.  It is affordable.  It fits in my shop with an 8' door.  Most importantly, I am willing to accept the additional risks and fly accordingly.   I will also mention that my dealings with Rotorway International with technical questions and parts have been outstanding.  They have certainly treated me beyond my expectations.

I hope to add additional information on the Rotorway as I have time.
